So it’s been a while since I did an update, sorry for that. Anyway, currently I’ve completed SIX pages on chapter 29, the chapter will start going up in October and I’m real excited for what’s going on. Meanwhile, here’s the chapter’s cover colored and all set to go.
We now have HALF of chapter 29 fully drawn up and just this morning I penciled up our cover for the chapter. The particular image seen to the left was heavily inspired by a commercial for Michael Turner’s Fathom seen on the back of an old Wizard Magazine.
The particular issue is seen on my desk in the second image, pardon the glare. At the time I got this issue I had no idea what Fathom was, but this particular image really struck me upon the instant I saw it. I was trying to replicate the the particular image free hand, but with my own touch to it. Sadly I couldn’t get it to come out the same way, so I used the original image as my reference for drawing it. Of course part of the production process is that I don’t like to exactly copy or worst of all trace. That’s kinda where the flaws and other touches kinda come in.
Anyway that’s our update for right now. My editor is working on the script, and says he’ll get it back to me very soon. Mostly the changes he makes are really just dialouge changes and some light alterations to plot. These shouldn’t be too hard to work in. I’ve still got half the chapter left to draw up, but it’s coming along very well.
It’s been a little while without an update, so I’m sharing some updated progress on chapter 29. So to give everyone an update, the script HAS been completed and sent to my editor. I’m still waiting for edits, which is usually just dialouge edits with a few notable changes. Meanwhile I’m currently drawing up the whole chapter. I’m essentially halfway through the chapter, and pages are being done quickly.
I’m essentially working on single layers in order to complete these faster rather than making a lot of layers, quite different that what was done in previous chapters. I kinda feel like it’s been gained from the large number of lunchtime sketches done at the day job. However a little issue I’ve discovered is that when you work on single layers it’s kinda harder to erase the lighter pencils over the darker ones, guess it’s an advantage of traditional over digital.
So anyway, here’s a small preview of some pages. Once all pages are drawn that’s when I’ll start inking and getting serious about releasing this chapter. But again, I’m still waiting for edits on the script. I’ll be back with another update when I can.
Little drawing of Kalwa rocking it out to Taylor Swift’s Love Story Song. I’m not that large of a Taylor Swift fan, but I truly love this song and it keeps getting in my head. And what the heck I just wanted to draw Kalwa singing it.
Kinda a remake of a piece I did some years ago where Kalwa was at a rave, except she was sporting the short haircut as it was done just shortly after the Whitechappel (chapters 16-19) wrapped up. Originally I was going to have her sing a Taylor Swift song, but then I just thought Levitating by Dua Lipa would be perfect.
Back from my vacation through Europe. Spent the last week kinda fighting off jet lag and getting back into the groove. Also after spending a week touring daily, you kinda come back wondering what you do now that it’s over. Anyway, I’ve been back to working on art. I’m also writing other stories and comics, but don’t worry I will keep rolling with Kalwa while still working on other things.
Anyway here’s a piece I started just before taking off for Europe, kinda a teaser of our next arch. This next arch will NOT be a long arch like the Japan arch was (we’ll have a little bit of that after). This next arch is meant more like a two chapter stand alone arch, featuring Kalwa and Zack facing the ancient deep waters of the early earth… and the dangers they hold. Check it out below and I’ll give more updates on the chapter progress.
Most of these drawings can be found in the production art section art gallery, but I’m re-sharing some production art from our most recent Japanese arch, such as minor characters and child designs. These drawings are usually done in my sketch book during down time, though I might also draw them on some larger paper at home on the drawing board.
Creating Kalwa pages are back after a lengthy absence. I admit that I kinda stopped writing these due to the somewhat lengthy detail involved in them. But I’m getting back to them and today we got a story based on Kalwa’s little brother/ field partner Zack. This page we go over his development from the beginning of production, thoughts and how he’s developed today. Click the thumbnail below to read the full article.
