First post in quite a while. I’ve kinda been busy on the Green Raptor site tending to the annual Halloween draw off. And speaking of which, here’s this years Halloween piece for Kalwa, with our three protagonists being ZOMBIEFIED. I think last year I drew a few head shots of the characters, though these blank eye designs were inspired by the zombies from Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island as I thought they were scarier.
On another note, the draw off is done and chapter 28 has been roughed out. Now that the draw off is finished I’m free to start working on the final art for chapter 28, I’ll give an update when we’re getting ready to roll it out.
Pictures from last week’s comic con in Tuscon Arizona, our first con with published books. I haven’t attended a con in so long, and my first experience was EXHAUSTING. I was pretty much on my toes for nine hours which you would think wouldn’t be so bad given my day job, but interacting with the cosplayers and potential customers left me drained, call it a first experience.
That aside, the convention was a great success, in the end we sold four Kalwa books and six Amber books (there was also a sale off con just yesterday). Also got in contact with several other on tips for future cons. I’m gonna try to find a cheaper printer for the books so we can hopefully sell them at a cheaper price, hopefully even get a ten chapter Kalwa graphic novel like I originally wanted.
I’ll start posting products to my Etsy store soon after some personal life stuff. We’re a bit short on books at the moment though I do have a very small number as of now. If interested, send a message to our contact page and I can sell you a copy.
They are finally here! Kalwa and Amber vol 1 are now officially published in paper back. These books will be sold at Tuscon Comic Con this weekend at the Green Raptor Table. I’ll look to selling them on the etsy shop too, but they will make their debut at the con.
Both of these are manga sized books done on lovely high quality, gloss paper. None of that novel like cheap stuff seen on other manga. Kalwa vol 1 contains the first four chapters of the story along with a small art gallery, which includes a special guest art by KGFantasy and an exclusive art that I haven’t posted to the website yet. It also includes and introduction and some behind the scenes work including old sketches and backstory on the original concept when it was first created back in my High School years. The book will cost $30
Amber will contain the entire first story seen on our other website Green Raptor Studios, it will feature two illustrations in it’s art gallery and small essay on the character’s creation. The book will cost $20.
In addition BOTH books contain new dialogue and updates to the artwork NOT seen on the websites. As is tradition in manga, what you see on the website is the first version, kinda like manga in a magazine and the published book is the final work. We will also have a couple of fun goodies and freebies at the table this weekend. So if you are in the Tuscon area this weekend, swing on by, I’d love
Crossover between Kalwa and Kohaku from Dr. Stone. This is the second crossover between the two. This originally a lunchtime sketch I did on break at the day job, but I decided to color it one day when I was short on inspiration. I’m seriously finding the name “Kalwa and Kohaku” having a good ring to it.
Its officially time to announce that I WILL be at Tuscon Comic con next week on September 1st through the 3. My booth is booth AA052.
Products I will be selling physical copies of Kalwa Vol 1 and Amber World’s Greatest Mer-Thief. These will be manga sized books in black and white. Kalwa vol 1 will include the first four chapters, plus special behind the scenes information on the development on Kalwa all the way from the original concept first created in High School. It will also contain an art gallery with select pieces including a brand new art piece I haven’t posted online yet and a guest art piece by artist KGFantasy.
Amber will contain the entire first book and an introduction of Amber’s creation, as well as a small gallery of art pieces. In addition BOTH books feature new dialogue and arts edits NOT SEEN on the online versions.
In addition I’ll be selling some old buttons and art from previous conventions as well as a mermaid poster book of my art. It’ll contain eight mermaid art pieces from the past few years (including recently) all of which can be clipped out for wall hanging, or kept in the art book.
So if you’re in the Tuscon AZ part of town this Labor day, stop by my booth. I’d love to meet you and have a nice chat.
Crossover with Luz Noceda from the Owl House, she’s trying to teach Kalwa about using glyphs to use magic. I’ve been wanting to do a Luz and Kalwa crossover for a while now, since the Owl House is a major inspiration to me. Seeing the show, learning about it’s creator really kinda pushed me into high gear, not to mention really helped put me on the map. Also Luz reminded me so much of Kalwa as both characters wish to escape their dull lives in pursuit of thrills and adventure.
And before anyone gets any ideas, Kalwa is a SCI-FI manga, I’ve made it a major point to not have any magic involved in the story, everything in the story is explained through logic. Even the time traveling phone will eventually be given an explanation which we have been working towards. Yes it does fall a bit in the realm of fantasy, but it’s like the manga Death Note where it just needs a small dap of fantasy to make the story work.
So I know it has been quiet around here lately. The reason is that I’ll be debuting the FIRST Kalwa books, and Amber, at Tuscan Comic Con this September and I’ve spent the last two months prepping stuff. Everything for the convention has been sent to the printers and I’m waiting for the final details on placement. Plus my day job has been a bit busy, especially with deliveries in the hot heat that Arizona has been having (if you lived here you’d know what I mean) has left me drained. So everything has kinda been on hold. We are now finally ready to resume work, and chapter 28 is being written. I’m working to have it written and roughed before the convention, I’ll give more details on that in the near future.
For now, here’s a new summer drawing of Kalwa doing some modeling. Hot as it is, I’ve still been trying to enjoy the summer vibes, hard as it is. This was originally a lunchtime sketch that I decided to color. Hope you enjoy it and have a good summer, what’s left of it anyway.
There’s a brand new Haunted Mansion movie starting next week and as a longtime fan of the attraction’s mythos, I’m so excited. So here’s a little crossover of Kalwa and Zack having a first hand encounter with the mansion’s darkest and most sinister character, Constance Hatchaway, the murderous bride who loves weddings and killing the groom. Hope they don’t lose their heads.
This September, I will be attending my first convention. I’ll be attending Tuscon comic con with a table in which I’ll be selling hard copies of Kalwa volume one, as well as Amber the Mermaid. Right now I don’t have an exact location as the map won’t be given till next month, but I’ll keep you all in the zone once I get the information. Right now I’m just throwing it out right now! Stay tuned for more details.
