Kalwa In the Deep

Back from my vacation through Europe. Spent the last week kinda fighting off jet lag and getting back into the groove. Also after spending a week touring daily, you kinda come back wondering what you do now that it’s over. Anyway, I’ve been back to working on art. I’m also writing other stories and comics, but don’t worry I will keep rolling with Kalwa while still working on other things.

Anyway here’s a piece I started just before taking off for Europe, kinda a teaser of our next arch. This next arch will NOT be a long arch like the Japan arch was (we’ll have a little bit of that after). This next arch is meant more like a two chapter stand alone arch, featuring Kalwa and Zack facing the ancient deep waters of the early earth… and the dangers they hold. Most of these drawings can be found in the production art section art gallery, but I’m re-sharing some production art from our most recent Japanese arch, such as minor characters and child designs. These drawings are usually done in my sketch book during down time, though I might also draw them on some larger paper at home on the drawing board.

Japanese Street Festival

So yes, our Japan arch didn’t exactly end on the happiest of note. But here’s a little bit of a happier image to invest in. Our three protagonists out enjoy a traditional Japanese street festival with MOST of the characters met along the way. This was originally a piece designed for my studio as a super tribute to how far the comic has come.

CHapter 28 COMPLETE!!!

WE’VE DONE IT EVERYONE! Another chapter of Kalwa is complete and more importantly, another story arch has been finished. Finishing a story arch is perhaps the bigger accomplishment than just finishing a chapter, as sometimes you can feel kinda trapped in the story for quite a long time as making these pages takes longer than reading them.

Truth be told, this arch was originally meant to be four chapters long, but it was extended to six in order to better develop the characters and make it more impactful. Further more due to Tuscan Comic con last year and prepping for printing, this particular chapter got delayed by longer than I wanted, so apologize there.

I’m about ready to take my first vacation in years and REALLY wanted to finish this chapter before going. The next story arch is already planned and will be MUCH shorter than this one, plus it’ll be mostly a stand alone one too. I just got Pages on my old labtop and have regained the ability to type on that computer and on my phone. In addition to Kalwa I’m also moving on some other projects, such as as story called the Raptor Queen. It’s a character I came up with earlier this year and REALLY love the concept and want to roll on it.

Once I get back from vacation, I really intend to get more active not just making art but doing other things like Youtube and other material. Kalwa will of course be part of it as will other Green Raptor characters so more on that soon! Meanwhile, check out the end of chapter 28.

It’s a double update today for Chapter 28. I’m really kinda pushing to finish this chapter soon as we are so close to finishing it. It’s been a little stressful lately, the day job is really leaving me a bit drained and I’m also trying to prepare for a trip soon. In addition I’m trying to finish up some work to post during my travel time so I’m kinda under a lot of pressure. But finishing this chapter is mostly priority number one.
